Tip of the Week: One of the most common form of animal cruelty is the abandonment of dogs. As pet owners fail to understand and control the behavior of their dogs when they go around chewing shoes and furniture, barking, urinating in the wrong places, etc, they 'give up hope' and abandon them.

Well, it is our responsibility to spend some quality time daily to train your dog! It will take some patience, and a lot of love. But remember, just like us human, learning as we get older, animals learn as they grow too! And what is better than to spend some quality time to bond with man's best friend?

The Saddest Picture In The World

Actual picture: A caged, helpless animal reaches out to someone in an animal laboratory.

Animals are cut up and infected with diseases, bones are broken on purpose, and all manner of horrible things are done to animals to test medications. Anything bad that can accidentally happen to a human being is inflicted on animals to see if ways of treating these things can be improved. Things like poking eyes out and other cruel actions. These animals are not sedated. They are treated in a very painful and hurtful way because the labs want a "live" experiment to see how things will really work. And in the end, how well do you relate yourself to a monkey, a dog, a cat, a rat? This animal testing is ludicrous. For example testing anti-depressants on animals that have a completely different brain chemistry than we do. On dogs to be specific! There are dogs in veterinary schools called 'anesthesia dogs'. They are dogs that go under anesthesia for example 10 times a week so students can "practice" giving anesthesia. They are then thrown back in a cage to sleep it off until next day.
The science doesn't match up with reality but those grants keep coming in and so the money is used on useless experiments that only harm animals. There is a huge and I mean huge underground market on stealing pets to sell to labs that test on animals. It is deplorable. What I am saying is this use of animals is not ethical. If it is not OK to treat a person like this, what makes it OK to treat an animal like this? God gave us dominion over animals not to abuse them.

Stop animal experimentation now!

THIS MADE ME FEEL SICK, I COULDNT EVEN READ THE REST BECAUSE I KNEW IT WOULD GET WORSE, I HAVE HEARD STORIES ABOUT THIS AND WHY DO YOU DO IT, IS IT FAIR? NO ITS DISGUSTING YOU DERSERVE IT TO HAPPEN TO YOU YEH YOUR HAPPY CAUSE YOU GET PAID TO INFLICT PAIN ON LITTLE ANIMALS IT APPALING. THIS HAS TO STOP, WHY ARE PEOPLE HAPPY WITH THIS, IF ONLY THEY KNEW HOW MEDICATION COME AROUND BECAUSE A POOR ANIMAL HAS TO BE GIVEN THE MEDICINE, WITH ALL THE SIDEEFFECTS WHICH COULD PROBERLY KILL THE POOR ANIMAL. SO MANY ANIMALS DIE BECAUSE OF THIS EVERYDAY PROBERLY HUNDREDS DUE TO THIS CRUEL TREATMENT. IT MUST STOP, YOU CREATED TREATMENT THERE MUST BE OTHER WAYS IF YOU CAN CREATE CURES WHY NOT TEST IT A DIFFERENT WAY, THIS ISNT FAIR TO DO TO AN ANIMAL WHO HAS NO CHOICE IN LIFE BUT TO GO THROUGH THIS. READING THIS ARTICLE MAKES ME FEEL ANGRY, I FEEL PEOPLE WHO LET THIS HAPPEN DERSERVE TO BE IN PAIN BECAUSE THEY DID IT SOO MANY TIMES THEY DERSERVE IT AND DERSERVE HELL, I HOPE THEY WILL SEE HOW WRONG THIS IS BEFORE MORE ANIMALS DIE.

I am a veterinary student. I love animals. The brain chemistry of many animals is very much like the brain chemistry of humans. For instance, anti-depressants work the same way in many animal species that they do in humans. Anti-depressants were first discovered through testing on mice and rats. If it weren't for this testing, we wouldn't have anti-depressants at all. Rodent models of depression have been crucial in saving countless human lives from debilitating depression which can lead to suicide. We use animals to practice and test because, if we don't, more animals or people will die from the use of untested drugs and procedures. Do you want to take a medication that has never been tested in any species? Many people would lose their lives. The anatomy of animals is often very like the anatomy of humans. Also, remember, I'm a vet student and I've never seen an 'anesthesia dog'. Animal testing is highly regulated. I love animals as much as you do. For heaven sake, I still pick worms off the sidewalk to put them back in the grass after it rains, because I feel bad for them. If I thought animals were suffering terribly, I'd have no part in it. But I'm still here, in vet school, working in animal research. So, I suggest that you do not believe every horror story you hear. You obviously haven't worked in research and shouldn't speak on things you haven't experienced for yourself and cannot know to be true.

I'm not sugar-coating it, our lab animals are often killed, quickly and humanely, after an experiment is over. They cannot be released into the wild or be kept as pets, because they have not built an immune system in the clean lab environment and would die of disease if released. But the good simply outweighs the bad. The sacrifice of a few could save thousands. Still, people aren't just happily torturing animals in labs. We keep them from as much discomfort as possible. We take every precaution to see that our animals are comfortable and happy. Our lab mice are better fed than any field mouse ever was. Not to mention we are highly regulated and inspected regularly.

"A caged, helpless animal reaches out to someone in an animal laboratory."

Or:

A primate reaches out to a caged, helpless human.

Or:

A primate in a humane and highly ethical scientific establishment where primate behaviour is studied interacts with a researcher.

Or:

A visitor at a zoo ignores the sign about not touching the animals.

You saw something and applied your own emotional baggage to it. The picture by itself could mean any number of things if it is looked at rationally. Not all animals in laboratories are used for drugs testing, and in many places where animals are studied, the researchers care very much and provide carefully designed species-suitable habitats inside the cages.

"These animals are not sedated." They ARE sedated or anaesthetised if they are undergoing a procedure that will cause them pain. It is illegal in all countries working to the international standard to perform surgery on an animal without anaesthetic. Vivisection (operating on live animals with no anaesthetic) has been banned for decades. Please, read up on these things from proper animal welfare sources and the bodies that govern how animal research laboratories are run before you propagate misinformation. I know it's difficult to get a real life tour of a research lab or an abattoir, but there are impartial videos that will describe what is happening and why things are done a particular way and real documents explaining the law and what steps are taken to make the process as humane as possible.

"per anonymous" - We use animals to practice and test because, if we don't, more animals or people will die from the use of untested drugs and procedures.** Why is it ok to take unwilling animals to test on, irregardless who it helps in the long run? Why don't we just start taking babies, they are just as unwilling as the animals. Why is the animals life less important then that of any human unable to communicate a desire not to be tested on? My name is georgina mackinnon - i will not be anonymous and you can search me on Facebook - i thin there are only 2 of us.

You are so right. God gave us dominion over animals to take care of them and protect them, and yet people think they can abuse and torture them! Its so horrible, I'll never understand how evil people can be.God is so mad at these people, they'd better stop their evil deeds. Animals are all so beautiful and people treat them so badly. Its so sick.

Our dog was stolen by the people who rented the house to us, and my mom told me they took the dog to a farm, but I recently found out that they sold it to an animal testing labratory. I cry every night praying my dog has died or will die soon and not have to be in any more pain....
